XL Expressionist Composition on canvas, by Valter Gibson
This extra large expressionist composition on canvas is a stunning work of art by the late Valter Gibson. The artist, born in 1928 in Lycksele and raised in Stockholm, passed away in 2002 while living in Hallstavik. Gibson was a student of Endre Nemes at the Valand Art School in Gothenburg from 1952 to 1955. As a member of “Generation 47-55” and the artists’ association Grupp 54, Gibson’s powerful expressionist style is evident in his use of various mediums such as oil and mixed media. His color palette ranges from dark hues of black and brown to vibrant bursts of yellow and blue. His artistic techniques include working with oil paints, acrylics, collages, gouache paints, and a variety of canvas and paper materials. This unsigned and unframed composition is a testament to Gibson’s mastery of the expressionist style.
