W59 Candle Holder (ziggurat version)
This piece is a reinterpretation of the Guggenheim Museum in New York, a white concrete cylinder whose curved lines ascend and give the sensation of coiling in a spiral. Wright used the shapes of the ancient Babylonian pyramidal constructions, the ziggurats, as a design concept for the Guggenheim Museum in New York. In fact, one of the drafts contemplated building it was like this. In this model, the W59 candle holder has a growing cylindrical shape. The smooth, continuous surface gives it a minimalist and sculptural appearance.
