Alex Katz: Flowers
In newer paintings by American artist Alex Katz, he choses flowers as a favored subject. Zooming in on the flowers that were once incorporated into his group projects, he presents a new perspective of the florals’ natural bright colors and organic shapes.
Throughout these works, his precise signature brush strokes and various flat colors complete each piece. Katz also adds a new technique to his usual painting approach here with a subtler wet-on-wet technique, meaning the last stroke of paint is applied before the first one has had time to dry.
Alex Katz: Flowers features previously unseen works from the artist’s flower series as well as new portraits, whose subjects are portrayed in beautiful botanical backgrounds.
